HeatMind Wearable Prototype

HeatMind is a wearable biomedical sensing prototype for studying physiological responses to heat exposure and physically demanding work. The current system integrates optical photoplethysmography (PPG), bioimpedance and ECG capability, and six-axis inertial sensing on a compact nRF52840 platform.

HeatMind sensing and BLE data path from PPG, bioimpedance, and inertial sensors through the wearable controller to MATLAB
Synchronized PPG, BioZ, and movement signals are processed on the wearable node and transmitted to MATLAB over Bluetooth Low Energy.

Biomedical signal pipeline

ModalityMeasurementSignal-processing role
Optical PPGInfrared pulse waveform and beat intervalsHeart-rate estimation and pulse signal-quality assessment
Bioimpedance / ECGTissue resistance and reactance with ECG capabilityPhysiological monitoring using in-phase and quadrature measurements
Six-axis IMUThree-axis acceleration and angular velocityActivity context and identification of motion-corrupted intervals

The sensing channels are time-aligned on the wearable node and transmitted over Bluetooth Low Energy to MATLAB for live visualization, logging, and offline signal-quality analysis. The prototype currently demonstrates multimodal sensor integration, wearable packaging, and repeatable data acquisition.

HeatMind is a research prototype and is not a medical device.
